Who is Worthy Lewallen?

Billie Harris - Nov 22, 2008

This was posted on the Genforum and I'm wondering if anyone knows who Worthy and Rody Lewallen are.

The reason I'm searching the Smiths is because of a DNA match with that of the Lewallens who descend from Anderson, from Wiley and from the Banks lines.   A Ysearch for 25 markers shows a match with a descendant of Elisha Smith born 1803 South Carolina.   The DNA for Wiley's descendant is being upgraded to 37 markers and it may eliminate the Smith connection which was also for 37 markers - or it may not eliminate it.   The results are due back mid December so we should know if there's a connection then.

Larry, I am just a few years late in reading/finding your posting regarding Aaron Joseph Smith married to Georgia Emma Simms.

My husband descends from Aaron Joseph's son Erastus Frasier.

Aaron Joseph's parents were Aaron Smith (b 16 Jan 1817 Ga/d 21 July 1882 Bowden Co, GA)& RHONDA (RODY) LEWALLEN) (b 1825 Ga/d 9 Mar 1894 Bowden Co, GA); married 22 July 1841 also in GA.

His parents were Richard W Smith (B 1790/D 1886) and Nancy Smith(B1795/d 1853)married June 1813 in Frankin Co GA

Rody Lewallen parents were WORTHY LEWALLEN (B 1800/D 1880s) and Elizabeth Burt (b 1806)

Georgia Emma Simms' parents were F Marion Simms (B1835 GA) and Mary Hulda Maiden Name Unknown (B1837 GA)

This is just a brief rundown of the info. Didn't know if you had already found out this info.

Worthy LEWALLEN was b. in SC in 1803.   His parents were Joseph C. & Martha LEWALLEN.   Joseph was the one who 1st brought the LEWALLENs into GA about 1805. They lived in Franklin Co which later split into Franklin and Habersham Co.   Worthy married Elizabeth BURT in 1821 and they had 13 children between 1824 & 1852. He was still living in Habersham Co in 1840 but Census records indicate he moved his family to Carroll Co before 1850.   He was still living in Carroll Co for the 1880 Census but died in Cleburne Co, AL in 1883.

Rhoda LEWALLEN was the first child of Worthy & Elizabeth b. 4 Mar 1824 in Habersham Co, GA.   She married Aaron SMITH in 1841 in Carroll Co, GA.   Both Aaron & Rhoda died in Haralson Co, GA in 1887 and 1894 respectively.   They are both buried in the Poplar Springs Cemetery, Haralson Co, GA.

Thanks, John.   Do you know anything about Aaron Smith - his parents or where they were from?

Billie -
 If you trust Ancestry.com .....

The SMITHs came from the area of Lancanshire, England as far back as the late 1500's.   Christopher SMITH (1670-1739) was the one that immigrated to VA (date unknown).   He married in Louisa, Hanover Co, VA about 1700.   It appears they moved to Chatham Co, NC about 1725. A couple generations later, Gabriel D. SMITH b.1764 in Anson Co, NC.   He married Sarah DOWNS in 1785 in Anson Co, NC.   Their 1st child was stillborn 1786 in Wilkes Co, GA.   Their son Richard SMITH b. 1790 in Elbert, GA.   He married Nancy (LNU) 1813 in Franklin Co, GA.   Richard & Nancy's son Aaron SMITH was b 1817 in Franklin Co, GA.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, John.   I no longer subscribe to Ancestry so appreciate your checking.   It just might help, never know.

Where do you find that Joseph's first wife's name is Martha?
