Lorenzo Dow Lewelling descends from William Lewelling who died in Randolph County, North Carolina. There was an article pertaining to him the the Beacon newspaper which you'll find near the bottom of the page

The article states that his ancestors came from Wales and the name was spelled Llewellyn in that country. It goes on to state his father, William Lewelling, was a minister of the Society of Friends and died in Indiana 1848 while engaged in missionary work. His mother was accidentally burned to death in 1855. Interesting article.
