What Happened To Anderson Lewallen and his wife Lucy ?

Billie Harris - Feb 27, 2009

I've been looking at postings on this site and all over the internet and I can't find what happened to Anderson and Lucy after they left Wake County, North Carolina.   Rick Llewellyn said they moved to Morgan County, Tennessee about 1811 but Morgan County wasn't formed until 1817 so it was probably to Roane County.

The reason I've been looking is because I can't find Jesse Lewallen either and I believe Jesse was probably the father of my Wiley Lewallen.   I suspect Jesse died after leaving North Carolina and moving into Tennessee because the 1830 census for Tennessee shows Wiley/Willie in McMinn County with his wife and children and   a female who was about the age his mother would have been.

If Wiley was Jesse's son, then his mother was Delpha Fogarty and Jesse and Delpha married 1795, the same year Wiley was born.   Between 1795 and 1800, there were two male children in the household who were born between 1795 and 1800, one of whom would be Wiley (or Willie?)   That means Wiley had a brother whose name we don't know.   Could Jesse have named his son Anderson after his father, Anderson -- and I'm only assuming Anderson was his father at this point.

At any rate, my question is, what happened to Anderson and Lucy (Rice) Lewallen?   Or what happened to Jesse Lewallen, Anderson's son?   Can anyone help?

My gggrandfather Matthew Lewallen is listed on the Morgan County Taxpayers list in 1836.   Matthew was born abt 1821.   He would be very young to own property by our terms, but probably inherited it from a deceased parent.   I have not been able to find parents or siblings to Matthew.   I have always suspected that his family came from NC.   I'm wondering if my Matthew could be the brother of Wiley.   I'm always looking for a connection.

Correct, Anderson & Lucy and family moved to what was then Roane county. They moved around some. I know Anderson's son, William (my line) was in Morgan county from land records. What happened to them? Well, here is the most factual account I know of. Their grave marker was found in a field on the property of Kathleen Fulwiler (I mentioned her earleir in another post) in Scott county. The marker had dates carved in them but anybody could have done that. I posted a picture of the grave marker in the photos section.

Rick, since they died before Scott became a county (1849 from Fentress, Morgan and Anderson), do you think it was Morgan County where they lived?   Morgan was a part of Roane until it was formed 1817.   What town would this have been in?   I'd like to look it up in the atlas I have.

Kathleen Fulwiler's farm was in the vicinity of Sunbright, Tennesee. As you understand, the county boundaries were shifting throughout that time. According to a document authored by Donald Todd, County Historian, titledMorgan County Bicentennial Committee, "Also in 1810 Anderson Luallen moved his family from Wake County, North Carolina and settled at Mill Creek." From my research, his son William (my line) lived on Black Wolf Creek. Knowing the creeks is the best way to estimate where they lived unless you have a deed.

Donald Todd is a direct decendent of Anderson,   he was a great grandson of Andrew Russell Lewallen.
