Jesse Lewallen

Jesse G. Lewallen was born in Hall Co., GA and enlisted 1 SEP 1864 in the Georgia State Troops, Co. O, Stovall’s Brigade. He notes in his statements that “Command was surrendered Savannah, GA soon after Lee’s Surrender. April 5th, left command at Athens, GA, went home on three days furlough, started back; met Lt. Col. West, who informed him of surrender. Then Returned Home.”

On 19 NOV 1924, Jesse G. Lewallen made an Application for Pension for Total Blindness. He was almost totally blind due to old age, and was unable to distinguish or define objects. On this application, Jesse signed with his mark. Jesse had been in this condition for two years and according to his physician’s statement his blindness was the result of senile cataracts.

Jesse died in Banks Co., GA 18 FEB 1932
