Hi Lewallen Researchers

I am new to the list.

I have a Herman Lewallen who was born on November 9, 1901 in Arkansas, and died in May of 1983 in Jonesboro, Craighead Co., AR.   He married EDNA MAIDEN NAME UNKNOWN about 1924 in Arkansas.   They had 5 children:

1. Gladys Lewallen, born 1925
2. Altha Mae Lewallen, born August 7, 1926 Cave City, Cave Twp.,Sharp Co., AR   m: Garlin Elas Provence before 1949.
3. Jean Lewallen, born after 1926 Cave City, Cave Twp., Sharp Co., AR
4. Lewis Lewallen, born after 1926 Cave City, Cave Twp., Sharp Co., AR
5. Doyle Lewallen, born after 1926 Cave City, Cave Twp., Sharp Co., AR.

Edna MNU was born about 1905 in Arkansas and died before 1959 perhaps is Cave City, Arkansas.

Does anyone know her maiden name?

Herman Lewallen's parents are William Daniel Lewallen and Cordelia Melissa Mobley.

Herman Lewallen mother is Barbara MNU who was born about 1848 in North Carolina and died between 1910 and 1920 in Independence Co., Dota Twp., AR. She had 6 children, William Daniel Lewallen and Charles M. Lewallen and 4 other children whose names are not known.

Does anyone know the husband's name of Barbara??   Her husband was born about 1848 in Arkansas and died before 1900 most likely in Independence Co., AR.

Thanks,

Dorothy & Aubrey,

There is an Independence County Bond for Marriage, dated 21 August 1923, for a license authorizing “the solemnization of the Rite of Matrimony” between Herman Lewallen and Miss Edna Liles.   Herman Lewallen was Principal on the bond and G.C. Loy was Security.

G.C. Loy may have been Grover Cleveland Loy (1885-1960), who was resident in Independence County in 1920.

There is a marriage license for Herman Lewallen, 21, of Walnut Grove, Independence County, Arkansas, and Edna Liles, 19, of Mobley, Sharp County, Arkansas, witnessed by H.W. Fox, Clerk of the Independence County Court, on 21 August 1923.   There is a Certificate of Marriage, certified by B.H. Wilson of Imboden, Arkansas, recording the marriage on 22 August 1923.

An Edna Liles (b. 1906, AR) was counted in the household of Alexander Liles in Independence County in 1920.   Alexander’s wife was Ellen Liles.

An Alexander Liles, 19, is reported to have married Forest Herrington, 15, in Independence County, Arkansas, on 15 April 1886.

An Alexander Liles, 22, is reported to have married Ellen Bradley, 19, in Independence County, Arkansas, on 8 August 1889.

In 1920, Willie D. Lewallen, 39, was head of a household in Independence County, Arkansas, that included his wife Cordela, 38, as well as children Herman, Alvis, Owen, Bonny, Nolie, Earl O., and Loyd D.

In 1900, Cordelia Mobley (b. 1882, AR) was listed in the household of M.F. Mobley (b. 1851, NC) in Barren Township, Independence County, Arkansas.   M.F. Mobley’s wife was Virginia Mobley (b. 1855, AR).

Cordia Mobley, 18, is reported to have married W.D.M. Lewallen, 19, both of Independence County, on 2 December 1900.   They were married by A.P. James.

Sarah Mobley, who appears to have been another daughter of M.F. and Virginia Mobley, is reported to have married Louis Lewallen, 21, in Independence County on 26 December 1911.   They were married by L.G. Bain, M.G., whose credentials were registered in Sharp County, Arkansas.

Hope these clues help,

Clete
