1684 - Assembly proceedings by John Llewellin:
[NOTE: broken link]
1689 - 27 Jul 1689 the Protestant Association, under John GOODE, seized St. Marys, the capitol of the colony, in a revolt against the proprietary government. This same year, Nicholas was Captain of foot in the Anne Arundel County Militia. He was promoted to Major in 1690. Then, quickly received a commission of Colonel and was appointed Commander of the Military Forces of Anne Arundel and Baltimore Counties.
   The proprietaryship was disallowed 27 Jun 1691. Sir Lionel Copley took the office as governor. He quickly appointed Nicholas Greenberry as a member of the council. Copley died 6 Apr 1692 and Nicholas Greenberry, at the age of 67, succeeded Copley as governor of the colony. Nicholas served until Sir Edmund Andros was appointed Royal Governor in 1693. At that time, Nicholas became president of the Council.
   On 2 Mar 1695 Nicholas Greenberry was on the high Court of Chancery of Maryland. This is recorded in Seated in the High Court of Chancery, Liber P.C. No. 2, folio 320. Here is the way it reads verbatim:
   "William ye third by ye grace of God of England, Holland, France, and Ireland, King Defender of ye faith &c to Coll. Nicholas Greenberry, Kneln Chesteldyne and Ma'r Edw. Dorsey, Esqrs. Greeting.
   "Wheras by a late commission granted by us and our Royal Consort Mary lately deed dated ye 14th day of last Coll. Henry Jowles, Esq. was instituted Chiefs Judge in Chancery & Keeper of our Great Seal of Maryland & Kenelm Chrseldyne & M'jr Edwd. Dorsey, Esqs joynt Commissioners & Assistant Judges in our high Court of Chancery for ye sd province and wheras ye said Coll. Henr. Jowles, Esq. being at present afflicted with ye Gout & other indispositions of body is therefore unable to attend ye said Court of Chancery and ye causes in our said Court require a dispatch & cannot without public prejudice be delayed, KNOW YET WE have therefore assigned you ye sd. COLL. NICHO. GREENBURY.
   "Kenelm Chesldyne and Ma'r Edwd. Dorsey, Esqs. Commissioners & Judges of our high Court of Chancery in our sd province of Maryland until such time as ye above said Coll. Henr. Jowles (together with ye assistant Judges joynt in ye said Commission with him) shall be able to attend his said office and to keep the cause to be kept all ordinances, rules &c. March 2 1695."
   According to Charles Stein, in his Orign and History of Howard Co., Maryland, on page 214, he writes: "I made a carefull examination of the seal impressions left by Nicholas Greenberry and his son. The shield, having a bend with three lozenges (diamond shapes) can be seen without much difficulty, and the crest above the knight's helment, seemingly a horned animal's head in profile, was most evidently a unicorn. "Pursuing the matter further, I discovered that there was one family arms listed as having the combination of a band with three lozenges on the shield with a unicorn's head for the crest. This is the English family of CARRINGTON, a family of ancient noble descent. According to Burke, the chief line of the Barons of Carrington became extinct in the time of Queen Elizabeth. Colonel Nicholas Greenberry was born a generation later, in 1627. It would seem probable that he was closely related to the Carringtons. Could it be that his mother was a Carrington and his father perhaps a member of the royal family?"
   Nicholas died at the age of 70 on 17 Dec 1697 at Whitehall. Both he and Anne are buried at Greenberry Point. (St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Annapolis, MD)
   They had 4 children:
Charles Greenberry, b. 9 Feb 1672 in England; d. 1713 in Anne Arundel Co., MD; M abt 1692, Rachel Stimpson
Katherine Greenberry, b. abt 1673 in England;
Elizabeth Greenberry, b. 23 Sep 1678 in Anne Arundel Co., MD; M 2 Sep 1694, Robert Goldsborough
Anne Greenberry, b. abt 1680 in Anne Arundel Co., MD; M abt 1700 John HAMMOND
   Katherine Greenberry, daughter of Nicolas & Anne Greenberry, was born about 1673 in England and died about 1703 in Anne Arundel Co., Maryland. She married 1st., Henry RIDGELY, Jr., son of Henry RIDGELY and Elizabeth HOWARD. She married 2nd., about 1674 in Anne Arundel Co., Maryland, John HOWARD, son of John HOWARD and Susanna NORWOOD. He was born about 1667 in Anne Arundel Co., Maryland, and died there about 1703.

     (Note:   Richard would probably have been his step-son, not his son-in-law.   Note that in the Will of Audry Taylord 1721, she refers to him as her son, and in the Will of Thomas Orell of Charles County 1719, he refers to Richard as his son-in-law and Orell's daughter was Jane.   Thus, Audry ? married a Lewellin who died and then she married William Taylord.   Audrey obviously had just one son with her Lewellin husband, Richard.   Richard married Jane Orell and together they had a son John and a daughter Margaret)

From a query published in Llewellyn Traces September 1989, a Louise Ann Llewellyn was born 1845 in Neath, Glamorgan, Wales and immigrated with her parents, Thomas and Mary (Williams) Llewellyn to Maryland in 1849.   She married 1864 William W. Snider and lived in Utica, Oshkosh County, Wisconsin.   She was widowed in 1878 and married (2) 1879 John Thomas Llewellyn (born 1849 to John and Elizabeth (Jenkins) Llewellyn, perhaps in Aberavon, Wales).   John Thomas and Louise Llewellyn Snyder Llewellyn moved to Powell, South Dakota, where they farmed and ran a general store.   John died about 1898.   Louise lived with her son, Henry Snoder, in Algoma, Oshkosh County, Wisconsin, from 1920 until her death in 1925.
