Roane County's Revolutionary War Soldiers:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnatcdar/Soldiers.htm

1810 - About this time, Anderson and Lucy (Rice) Lewallen moved from Wake County, N.C. to Roane County, the section that became Morgan County and later Scott County.
According to a document authored by Donald Todd, County Historian, titled Morgan County Bicentennial Committee, "Also in 1810 Anderson Luallen moved his family from Wake County, North Carolina and settled at Mill Creek." From Rick Llewellyn's research, his son William lived on Black Wolf Creek. Knowing the creeks is the best way to estimate where they lived unless you have a deed.   (NOTE:   This transaction could have been in Anderson County, TN because Morgan was formed from Anderson and roane)

1811 - Andrew L. Lewallen moved from Wake County, N.C. to Roane County this year when he was 17 years old.

1812 - War of 1812 shows Andrew Luallen 5th Regt (Booth's) East Tennessee Militia.   It also shows a Charles Luallen and a William luallen in the same regiment.

1814 - Andrew Lewtian Llewellyn married   Malinda Davis October 7.   They are both buried in Scott County, Tennessee. (Descendant of Anderson and Lucy (Rice) Lewallen)   See Scott and Morgan counties.   (Family historians say he fought in the War of 1812 under Andrew Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans - (has this been confirmed?..bh).   Malinda was born April 1, 1792 in N.C. daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Davis of Virginia.   Andrew was a farmer and Methodist minister.

1830 - Census shows:
John Lewallen, one boy age 10-15, one male age 50-60 (1770-80), 2 females ages 0-5, one female age 5-10, one female 15-20, one female 20-30, one female 40-50 (1780-90)

Adjacent counties: Logan County, Kentucky (north). Simpson County, Kentucky (northeast) Sumner County (east)   Davidson County (south)   Cheatham County (southwest) Montgomery County (west) Todd County, Kentucky (northwest)

1850 - Timothy Sexton Jr. died.   He was born 1783 York Co. S.C.   (See Morgan County above.)   His siblings have been given as William (1786-1854), Moses (1789-1850 Fentress Co TN), Aaron (1791-1894 Crawford Co. IL), and John 1793-1861 Hay Creek, Johnson Co. Ark)
1850 - Moses Sexton died June 1 in either Scott or Fentress County.   He was born May 18, 1789, probably South Carolina, and married Leander Hatfield 1814 in Campbell County, TN.

1850 - 1858 - John Lewallen was sheriff of Scott County.   During that time, he even arrested his brother's son, John, for profanity and was fine $2 and costs.   Also in that time James Duncan and Shadrack Lewallen came into open court and confessed jointly to being involved in the same "heated disagreement" in or near the courthouse and were fined with costs.   Shadrack was arrested for various infactions, including profanity, being a nuisance, assault and battery, and running a bawdy house (see 1857)
1850 -"Ordered by the court that John Jeffers be appointed overseer of a second class road from Samuel Lawsons to the James Town road and have isac Reed, JOHN LEWALLEN, Isac Jeffers, ZACHARIAH LEWALLEN, Jacob Aron Philips, Nathan Bowlin, MATHEW LEWALLEN and he have said hand to keep same in repair."

1851 -   "It is ordered by the Court that Daniel Jeffers a mail child of Pheba Jeffers now Pheba Smith be bound unto Allen McDonald until the said Daniel Jeffers is twenty-one years of age and the said Allen McDonald is and do bind himself to give the said Daniel Jeffers one good sound fifty dollar horse and one mans saddell and bridle and two suits of clothes and one years schooling, the horse bridle and saddle and clothing to be paid when the said Daniel Jeffers arrives to the age of twenty-one years and the said schooling is to be given on or before that time."   Most likely this is an order for Daniel Jeffers to be bound to Allen McDonald so that he could receive some "schooling" because he did not have a father.   It was common for fatherless male children to be bound out to learn a trade until the age of 18 sometimes 21.   "State of Tennessee vs Allen McDonald. Bastardy. This day come the person and open court and after hearing the proof and papers in his course and the Court being satisfied that the defendant is not guilty as charged in the warrant it is therefore ordered by the court that the defendant be and he is hereby discharged."   This one, of course, is self explanatory, being a bastardy case.   However, the court found Allen was not the father of this child.

1851 - "Southern Campaign American Revolution Penson Statements and Rosters".   These are transcripts regarding the pension application for Joseph Davis, father of Malinda Davis Lewallen.   Elizabeth Davis is Joseph's widow. "Affiant further declares that said Elizabeth Davis, his mother, died on or about the 16th day of December in the year 1851 and that she left the following named only surviving children, Walter Davis, Rebecca Lewallen, Milly Lewallen and the affiant in this declaration...S/Robert L. Davis."   So Rebecca Davis Lewallen is a sister to Malinda Davis Lewallen.   She could still be my Matthew's mother, but my theory that she was unmarried was wrong.   If everyone will recall, after DNA testing Renee's Zachariah Davis Lewallen and my Matthew Lewallen (both born in early 1820s and living in Scott Co, TN in 1850) matched each other as well as Davises and Sessions, but no other Lewallens.   Just one more piece of the puzzle! (Posted by Darlene Griffin)

Scott County Call 24th June 1887
In July 1872 a man by the name of Dan Pennington was killed in the Third District of this county. A bill was found by the Grand Jury against Steward Slaven, who left the immediately after Pennington was killed. In a year or so, ANDERSON LEWALLEN, who was then living in that part of the county, moved to Texas. Last month, Mr. Lewallen, in company with his brother in law, ELIHU McDONALD, came to this county. After they had been here some time Lewallen was arrested, accused of murdering or helping to murder Dan Pennington. Monday the 20, the case was called, Esqrs Sharp and Griffith presiding. Both sides announced ready for the trial. A number of witnesses testified. Among them was the then wife of Dan Pennington, who said she was a sister of Steward Slaven and that he was the man who killed her husband. Before her husband died he told her he saw Steward Slaven run after he (Pennington) was shot, and knew him. Other witnesses testified that before, or as Steward Slaven was leaving the country he said they need not bother his brother for he (Steward) killed Dan Pennington. Mr. Lewallen testified with a good countenance that he had nothing to do with the killing of Dan Pennington, that he said in that country for a year after the killing and was never accused of it. It was very clear that Lewallen was innocent. The decision of the Court was "not guilty as charged in the warrant." The prosecution must be satisfied, after hearing the evidence, that Lewallen was wrongfully accused
