Children of John and Jane Lewellen of Monongalia County, WV

Billie Harris - Oct 6, 2012

This is a copy of a letter that's difficult to read.   It's on letterhead "The Midland Store, Spencer, W. Va" and is dated April 16, 1926.   It's to a woman (can't read her name but last looks like Lado" in Niles Ohio)

"Replying to your inquiry, your grandfather, Jeremiah Lewellen was born near Morgantown, this state in 1825.   His father likewise was born there.   Name John.   He was twice married.   Had a son John who settled in Cincinnati.

"Of the second marriage, Uncle James Lewellen died at Masontown?
Uncle Jacob lived in   ??   (looks like Uniontown)
Pa
Two sisters, one died while young.
The youngest child of Grandfather was named Rebecca, married Geo. Beals and the last we heard of them live in Missouri.
Grandmother Lewellen   before mama was Grigg.
Grandfather Hastings also lived in Monongalia Co.   His wife was a McGill.
Hastings are English
McGill irish
Lewellen Welch
Grigg Scotch.
So you are the mixture of blood Eng, Irish, Scotch and Welch - equally proportioned.
We are well as usual - houses in Cincinnati at the Conservatory of Music.
Trust you and yours are all well and succeeding.
With kind regards to all I remain yours
M.F Lewellen (middle initial looks like F...bh)
