Hardy Lewellen (1803), Mecklinburg NC, MS

Billie Harris - Jun 30, 2013

The following are from old GenForum postings.   Since Mecklenberg County was formed from Anson, it's possible Hardy was a son of Jesse of Anson.   See: [NOTE: broken link]

LOOKING FOR information on Hardy LEWELLEN'S parents or siblings. Hardy was b. abt 1803 in NC. I am at that brick wall we all know so well! I know Hardy had moved to Mississippi from N.C by 1849 according to census information on the LDS site. At least 3 sons had followed him to MS by 1859. I have found 15 children listing Hardy as their father! They are as follows:
Emily no D.O.B
Jesse b 1824
John b 1826 (Don't know if this is Hardy's Son or someone else)
James b 1827
William Milton b 1829
Hiram b 1831
George Washington b 1833
Mary b 1833?
Robert b 1834
Elizabeth b 1836
Harry (or Harrison?) b 1840
Albert b 1842
Cyrus b 1844
Clementine b 1846
Katherine b 1849
Surely there are descendents of some of these children out there ...somewhere.! Some of the childrens mother was listed as Catherine and some listed Elizabeth as the mother.

My ggggrandfather was Hardy Lewellen, b. in 1803 in NC. Don't know where at in NC, but he married Catherine Sucrest/Sucress? (Various Spellings) in 1823 in Mecklingberg NC. They had 11 children. Jesse, b. 1824 (married Laney McLelland in 1844 in Mecklingberg, NC); John, b. 1826 (Married Margaret Knowles in Mecklingberg, NC); James, b 1827; William, b. 1829; George, b. 1833; Mary, b. 1833; Elizabeth, b. 1836; Cyrus, b. 1841; Albert, b. 1842; Harry or Harrison, b. 1840; Katherine, b. 1849. From there we cannot find any other information on Hardy, his parents, or siblings. But Lewallen is spelled several different ways, Lewellen, LLewellyn, Lewellyn. Check out the Lewellen Site at [NOTE: broken link] and the Mormon Site.
