John Lewellen
Dorothy Campbell - May 15, 2009
I found this on FInd A grave. Can anyone tell me if this is correct about John Lewellen's middle name?
Tennessee Lewellen Ewing
It says that "Tennessee Lewellen Ewing" is the daughter of John Columbus and Melinda "Emily" Reed Lewallen. The wife of James Joshua Ewing.
I had never heard a middle name mentioned for him before, but he does have a son named Columbus Scott Lewellen.
Does anyone know if this is correct?

I do not believe this would be correct. John Lewellen was my g.grandfather and no where in my family info do I find him having a middle name. I think engraved on his toomb stone is John Lewellen.

That is the first I had ever heard of it, but then I also saw it listed through out Find A Grave on other members of his family's headstones and it is listed this way also. Either they know something we don't, or they are completely wrong. Wonder where they go tthe info from?
I left a message for the Karen that placed the info on FAG, so maybe she can tell us where she got the info from.

Here is what Karen Hix that posted on FAG about John's middle name, has to say as to where she got the middle name for John.
Karen is from John's son Andrew's Line. He lived in Temple, Bell Co, TX area, I believe.

Texas' Bible doesn't list those names. Just John and Emley. Seems strange.

I had heard that her name had Malinda/Melinda before many times, but not his as Columbus. Her stone has Emely, so I started using that spelling.

I don't know if this confuses the matter or if what I have is all accurate but there are a lot of Columbus names but I don't find one of a John Columbus. I've found
Isaac Lewallen born 1834 had a son named Columbus
Anderson (Cash up) Lewallen had a son named Columbus born 1857 wife Dorothy
Anderson Lewallen in the 1860 Wayne County, KY had a son named Columbus who was age 2.
Also on that census was John Lewallen 48 wife Delila and children Campbell, Andrew, Nancy, Columbus age 12, Eliza, Lucinda and William.
Also was Anderson Lewallen 66 and Rebecca 58.
Columbus Lewallen, wife Dorcas. His name also shows as Columbus Scott Lewallen and he was born 1847.
But I don't find any John Columbus Lewallens.

This isn't my line and I'm sure one of you know the answer, but could the Columbus with a wife Dorothy have been the same as the one with the wife Dorcas?
Dorothy Campbell - May 18, 2009
John's son Columbus Scott Lewellen as married to Dorcus Koger Lewellen. I have a few times heard her called Dorothy, but I really don't know if that was her name. Her headstone has Dorcus on it.

I suggest that we put in our notes the line Karen Hix cites and that her grandmother told her his middle name was Columbus - but add that we've never seen any proof of that. I also think that someone should add their own picture of the headstone with the same thing mentioned so new researchers don't think they have found some great new bit of proof.

If you look in [NOTE: PHOTOS, page 3 on this site NEEDS to be replaced with correct location], someone has posted the picture of John Lewellen's grave marker. I'm the one who marked the name and information with black so it would show up in a picture, then was concerned it might not wash off. It did. No where in any of our family papers was a middle name mentioned for him. He was my great grandfather.
