Do we have any other Llewellyn, Lewallen, Lewelling, etc. lines on here other than these?

Anderson Lewellen
Wiley Lewallen
William Lewelling
Thomas Llewellyn
John Lewallen (born 1780)
Thomas Marion Lewallen (born 1846)
John Lewallen (born 1841)

If any of you are researching any other lines, please let us know.

Darlene Luallen Griffin - Jun 13, 2009

This is my line beginning with me:
Darlene Luallen Griffin, born in CA
Jack Edsel Luallen (also listed as Troy) born in 1911 in
Douglas Co., MO
Elihu Luallen, born 1848 in Scott County, TN (moved to MO
around 1860 with his mother Sarah
Lawson Lewallen after his father died, spelling of last
name was changed)
Matthew Lewallen (born in TN abt 1821; died   in Campbell/Scott
Co between 1850 & 1860)

I have not been able to tie Matthew to any of the Lewallen lines.   I'm
sure that he was related somehow
because he lived all of his adult life in Campbell/Scott Co.   His name is
also spelled Louallen.   I am
planning a trip in July to that area.   Perhaps I'll be able to find what I am
looking for.   Any suggestions are
appreciated.

Billie Harris - Jun 13, 2009

Darlene, thanks for posting that.   I think I just assumed all the Scott County, TN line was from Anderson but it's entirely possible that there are other lines in there as well.

I found Troy Luallen in the Douglas County, Missouri 1920 census.   He was born 1912, son of Walter J. Luallen age 38 born Missouri and both parents born Tennesse, Susan age 35 born Missouri, fathr born Missouri and mother born Iow, Beatric age 10 Missouri, Troy age 8, Talmage age 4, and Marvin age 1 5/12.

the 1930 census for Fresno County, CA.   shows Walter J, Susie, Troy, Marvin, Talmadge, Ila age 9 and John age 6.

Are these yours?

I may have asked this before and you may have answered, but do you have a male Luallen who could do a DNA?   A brother, an uncle, a cousin - even a distant cousin?   A DNA would sure tell us if there is a connection with Anderson or with another Luallen, Lewallen, Llewellyn, etc.

Darlene Luallen Griffin - Jun 13, 2009

Yes, that is my father's family.   My father never went by his given name Troy...he was always
Jack...even his enlistment papers say Jack E. Luallen.   My uncle's given name was Talmadge, but he
went by Pete.   During my research I found that my grandfather who died long before I was born was
actually named James Walter Luallen.   His own children never knew what the J stood for.   Walter & Susie
moved their family from Douglas County, MO to the Sanger, CA area in the late 1920s.

I do have a male Luallen cousin that I think would be interested in taking the DNA test.   Now that school is
out (I teach) I will have time to contact him.

My tree is posted on ancestry.com (Luallen Tree).   I would love for anyone who has access to visit.

Billie Harris - Jun 13, 2009

I just did and you have some great photos and information on there.   Looks like at least two of the men were in service when their mother passed away.   That's a good picture.

Please try to get your cousin to test.   The tests are painless.   Let me know if you can persuade him.   I sure hope so.

Resa Miller - Jun 13, 2009

Well, besides having Anderson Grant Lewallen as the head of 3 different lines, I also have Susannah Luellin that married William McIntire.   They were recorded in the Bedford Co. Va. marriage bonds, August 8, 1789.   They had a daughter Nancy Charlotte McIntire that married Joseph Watts father of Daniel Columbus Renaugh Watts father of (Joseph) Campbell Watts whom married Louisa Deliah Lewallen daughter of Campbell C Lewallen.
Susannah Luellin in in the history section of your book.

P. Jeannine Headrick - Jun 14, 2009

My Llewellyn line in America begins with the arrival prior to 1770, possibly as early as 1756, of Samuel (b 1698).   Most of the family settled in West Virginia.   Doctor Llewellyn, Samuel's son, served in the Revolutionary War and I was able to join the DAR as his descendent.

After the Civil War my immediate line moved on to Kansas and then to California where my mother, Olive Lucile Melcher Headrick,   was born in 1916.   I have not noticed other members on this forum who claim descendancy from Samuel

Dorothy Campbell - Jun 14, 2009

Jeannine,

Is this the same Descendants of Samuel Llewellyn?

I just sent Colleen Smith an invitation to the site as well.

Billie Harris - Jun 14, 2009

Jeannine, I know you've read the articles in Llewellyn Traces by Martha Abbey, but if not, following are links to them.

This is one line of Llewellyns that I wish we could get a DNA for.   Do you know of any male Llewellyns who might do a test?   If so, we could possibly connect them with one of the other lines.

[NOTE: broken links]

P. Jeannine Headrick - Jun 15, 2009

Billie,

Thanks for the link.   My Llewellyn males ended with Stephen O. who had two daughters.   BUT, he had four brothers one of whom, Anthony Garret Llewellyn,   I know had four sons.   I'll keep checking this out.

Marlea Llewellyn - Feb 9, 2011

Hi Billie.   Thanks for the invite.   Please excuse me for maybe rehashing items you may have already discussed.   I am new to all of this.   I have been searching my family history for a while, here and there.   Never put a lot of effort into it.   However, this "Llewellyn" line I didn't see mentioned here.   I could be missing it, as I said I am a novice.   I would appreciate any help anyone could give.   Here we go:

William & Elizabeth Llewellyn –  Wales 1851 census indicates William a Puddler born in Beacon Penderyn Elizabeth born in Monmouthshire (hard to determine writing) Abrystrouth(?) Children born Monmouthshire Bedwellty. Lived at 184 or 186 Suddlers Row
Household Members:   William Llewellyn 40 -Head; Elizabeth Llewellyn 33-Wife; Janet Llewellyn 14-daughter; Mary Llewellyn   10-daughter;   Noah Llewellyn 8-son; Ann Llewellyn 6-daughter; Rachel Williams 3-Niece; John Jones 20-Lodger; Ann Hughes 20-Visitor

Wales 1861 census indicates
Name: Noah Llewellyn Age:18 Estimated birth year: abt 1843 Relation: Son   Father's name: William Mother's name:Elizabeth; Gender: Male   Where born: Ebbw Vale, Monmouthshire, Wales Civil Parish or Township: Bedwellty Ecclesiastica; Parish:Tredegar ; Town: Ebbw Vale County/Island: Monmouthshire Country: Wales ; Registration district: Bedwelty; Sub-registration district: Tredegar; ED, institution, or vessel: 45;   Household schedule number: 53

Household Members:   William Llewellyn 50 -Head; Elizabeth Llewellyn 43-Wife; Janet Llewellyn 24-daughter; Mary Llewellyn   20-daughter;   Noah Llewellyn 18-son; Alice Llewellyn 9-daughter ; Richard Llewellyn 7-son. Rachel Williams 13   Niece; John Ridcliff 19-Lodger; William T Jones 49-Lodger

At some point Noah relocated to Trumbull County Ohio where he met Cecelia Davis also born in Wales about 1843.   The story is that they were on the same boat but never met until some time later in Ohio.   They were married and had several children in Ohio.   They then relocated to New Castle, Lawrence County, PA where they had several more children and owned and ran a boarding house.   The remained there until their death.   Noah Llewellyn –  Birth: 1843 in Wales/Death: October 10, 1908 in New Castle, PA Cecelia Davis –  Birth:   1843 born in Wales/Death: March 27, 1907 in New Castle, PA.   Both Buried in Greenwood Cemetery in New Castle. (6) Children: (William Sr., David, Caroline, Alden, Elizabeth, Frederick)

William Llewellyn, Sr., Birth:   1-16-1873/Death: 4-28-1943 Married in (1892) to Elizabeth Eupheme Biddle Llewellyn Birth:   5-16-1872/Death: 4-5-1948.   They had 9 Children: Cecelia Margaret, David, William Llewellyn, Jr., Josiah (Sy), Elizabeth, Lawrence Flynn, Charles Alfred, Frederick Arnold (Fritz), Kathryn Jane (Kate)

I have a lot of history found on the Biddle line of this union. However, you can see I did not get any further than the 1811 William.   My Grandfather William Jr. passed away when I was the ripe old age of 9.   Fortunately, I spent a lot of time with him and have wonderful memories of him and his Brother Lawrence and Sister Kate.

William Llewellyn Jr. Birth:5-17-1899/Death:12-14-1976 Married Nellie Katherine Bennett They had 6 Children: Cecilia Irene; William Franklin, Robert Shields; Delolorz Jean, Charles Raymond; Wallace Dean.   They divorced. He then Married Ruth Collinswood/Dodson and had 1 Child:   Marlea Kay Llewellyn/Dodson married name Caldwell.   They divorced. He then Married: Evelyn Shook Dudash   2 Step children: Ronald Dudash and David Dudash.

Robert Shields Llewellyn (8/1/1927-12/31/2009) married on October 20, 1951 to Flossie Louise Jones (2/3/33-12/5/2008) and had 8 Children: Robert Martin; Diana Lynn; Marjorie Ann; Brenda Lee; Bryan Wayne; Raymond Scott; Marlea Kay; and Jerry Dean.   This is my generation and so many more nieces, nephews and cousins….   I’ll stop there.   I would love to go back further and details on William of 1811 and what happened to Noah’s Siblings.   I can only assume that Noah’s sister Ann died as she was 6 on the 1851 census and not mentioned on the 1861 census.   She would be 16 at the time maybe she was out of the house already, but her 24 yr old and 20 yr old sisters were still at home.   What is the likelihood of that?

Thanks

Billie Harris - Feb 9, 2011

Marlea, glad you joined us.

I've looked to see what we have on your line and you already have it.   In fact, you have far more than we have so I'm glad you posted what you have.   It will help others.

We're showing:

TRUMBULL COUNTY

1869 - By this year Noah Llewellyn married Cecelia Davis.   Both were from Wales.   6 children:   Carline born 1869 OH, David 1871 OH, William 1872 OH, Elizabeth 1875 OH, Aldine 1878 PA and Frederick 1880 PA.   (See New Castle, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. where many Llewellyns from Wales lived)

LAWRENCE COUNTY, PA.

1880 - Census shows Noah Llewellyn born 1845 Wales, Cecelia born 1844 Wales.   (She was a Davis before she married.)   Children:   Caroline born 1869 Ohio, David born 1871 Ohio, William born 1872 Ohio, Elizabeth 1875 Ohio, Aldine 1878 PA, and after the census was taken, Frederick was born 1880 PA.   This family moved from Trumbull County, OH, to Lawrence County.

Perhaps someone else has come across information on this line and can post it.   I'll try to see what I can find on Noah's siblings, too.

Landy Gobes - Feb 10, 2011

Billie, my totally documented line starts with John Lewellen born about 1760 in VA and died Preble Co, OH in 1827.   He had many male descendents, and I wish one of them would send in their DNA.

I believe he is a son of Thomas Lewellen whose wife Susannah (if she was his first wife)was a Quaker.   They owned property in Loudoun Co, VA and he died after 1779.

Noting that he enlisted from Westmoreland County, PA, then yes, it would definitely be good to get a descendant's DNA.   It appears he may have been connected to the Shadrach and Deborah (Burson) family and we really do need a DNA from that line.

Landy Gobes - Feb 11, 2011

Yes, I think he was born in Loudoun Co, VA, moved to the WV-PA line (Fayette Co was Westmoreland Co then), served in the militia from PA, married Catharine Duvall whose parents lived in Fayette Co and whose property went back and forth between WV and PA as the state lines changed.   The young couple went back to Loudoun Co, VA briefly, lived in WV/PA, went to KY for a few years, and then settled in Preble Co, OH for the rest of their lives.

I think Shadrack and Deborah were cousins.   Their children went to the same counties in KY and Deborah died in Preble Co, OH.

Marlea Llewellyn - Feb 10, 2011

Thanks Billie!   I have never found when, where or how Noah and/or Cecelia came to this country.   Nor have I ever found anything on Cecelia Davis other than what we know of her after marriage.   I have a few articles from the New Castle News but none that tell of siblings.   Nor have I found any info on Noah's siblings.   I do know that there was a second William Llewellyn that lived in New Castle but moved then worked and lived in VA and NC that would visit New Castle from time to time.   Some old articles showed that his wife was a guest of this person or that.............   I guess that was a slow news day.   Either that or they were real busy bodies back in the day.   How Green is My Valley has to be one of my favorite old movies and you know they behaved badly with the Gossip.   My Great Aunt use to tell me that when she was young, if you posted the news everyone would talk about it as if it was a wonderful event. But if someone found out and it was not posted it became a dirty little secret and it had to be something horrid.   Even if it was good news.   She said "To be posted was to be someone!"     I have tons of stories about New Castle from back in the day.........   The fact is that Llewellyns usually sing well and are fabulous story tellers.   I was born with a fantastic memory and just in time to be blessed by the stories of the 1900 era.   I don't have a book yet but I think I am close. LOL   I have typed up the stories as I remember them......   Yes I type a lot.   Can we say Carpel Tunnel?

Mary Parker - Jun 4, 2011

Marlea,
My Llewellyns are also good singers, musicians, music lovers.   I, too, have a very good memory.   When I was in Ireland, there were street musicians singing one evening and I heard them singing "Myfawnwy".   Since hearin it the first time I watch "HGWMValley", I've always been enchanted by that song.   After Ireland, I researched it and found that a Joseph Perry wrote it in memory of his childhood sweetheart, Myfawnwy Llewellyn.

That is awesome!   I am going to research it now.   Speaking of singing.....   My cousin is a voice instructor in CA.   She is an opera singer and use to tour....   One of her students is on "The Glee Project" on Oxygen.....   Apparently the winner gets a spot on glee...   That would be really cool.
