Who is Shade Lewallen?   I have seen some people call Andrew Leutain Lewallen called Shade.   I have seen where Shade and his daughter Elizabeth were accused of running a baudy house.   I have seen where Shade Lewallen was the only one that voted for Lincoln, in Scott Co. Tn.
I don't think that Andrew Leutain (Lewtain)Lewallen was the one that was accused of running a baudy house, because he was suppose to have been a minister.   He did have a daughter named Elizabeth, (didn't everyone?)
I suppose there can be more than one.   So my question is are the all the same or different?

Good questions, Resa, and I hope someone has an answer.   I'm wondering if Shade should have been "Shad" and written with an "e' on the end of the name.

There was a Shadrick in Scott County and he and Elizabeth were arrested for running a bawdy house.   She was also arrested for larceny.   In looking at one of the census records, they may have been from North Carolina.

I suspect Shadrick/Shadrach was related to Herrod and a William and an A.R. Lewallen because in 1856 Shadrick and Herrod both were involved in land transactions with a James Duncan.   In 1857 William was involved in a land Transaction with a Duncan and 1859 an A.R. Lewallen was involved in a transaction with Duncan.   So IF any of these - A.R., William, Herrod - are part of the family descending from Anderson - then more than likely Shadrach is connected to them and may be the Shade you mention.

I know of 2 A.R. Lewallen's. The first born, that I know of is the son of Andrew Lewtain Lewallen and was born about 1824, he married Perlisia Davis.   The other was his nephew, born around 1849.   I'm not checking date, this is of the top of my head.   The reason I know this is because, when I first started doing genealogy I didn't know there were to that went by A.R. so I kept getting them mixed up.   I found very little on my ancestor, the first one, son of Andrew Lewtain.

IF Shadrach is the S Lewallen in the 1860 census, he was born 1807 North Carolina and the Elizabeth in that census was born same year, same place.   Also showing in the household were Elender 18 N.C., Mary 16 NC, Elizabeth 15 NC, William 13 NC and Nancy 6/12 TN which means they were still in North Carolina 1847 when William was born.   I don't know if Nancy was their child or someone else's.

Anderson and Andrew (his son) were in Morgan County about 1811-1819 and Scott was formed from Morgan 1849.

Matthew, Andrew and Jesse Lewallen are mentioned in Morgan 1827. then William (son of Anderson)   and John soon after.

Herrod is shown in the 1850 census for Morgan.   Since Shadrack didn't leave North Carolina until 1847 or after, I'm not sure which family he belongs to.

The Duncan involved in land transactions may have just been a land developer or buying/selling land.   Maybe someone else can tell us more about these Lewallens.
