Barbara, Thanks for posting this info.   I'm not sure which line they belong to.   Anyone know?

Barbara & Billie,

For some reason, and I can’t remember exactly why and when, I looked at Bell County, Texas, which was thick with Lewallens, LewAllens, Lewellens, and Llewelyns; most born in Texas, but also (including wives with other maiden names) Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Wales.

I think I can help put in genealogical context the four individuals Barbara noted as buried at the Greathouse Cemetery.

The dates for the birth (1855) and death (1939) of William Lewallen closely match those on a Texas death certificate for William Lewallen, who was born in Tennessee about 1856, and died in Temple, Bell County, Texas, on 4 January 1939, at the age of 83 years, 1 month, and 27 days.   His father’s name was listed as Zach Lewallen, and his mother’s maiden name was McDonald.

There is a Texas death certificate for Almira Louise Lewallen, who was born on 27 September 1856 in Indiana, and died in Houston, Harris County, Texas, on 21 March 1936.   She was buried at Temple, Texas, on 21 March 1936.   Married, her husband was named as William Leweallen.   Her parents were Phenix Palmer and Cinthia Wagner.   Her occupation was “Housework.”

There’s a Texas death certificate for married tavern owner John Lee Lewallen, who was born on 11 February 1884 in Bell County, Texas, and died at Temple, Bell County, Texas, his residence, on 7 May 1951 at the age of 67 years, 2 months, and 26 days.   His father was Will Lewallen, born in Tennessee, and his mother’s maiden name was Palmer.   He was buried at the Greathouse Cemetery, near Temple Bell County.   The death certificate did not name his spouse.

There is a Texas death certificate for a Daisy Jane Joyce, who was born in Coryell City [Coryell County], Texas, on 22 January 1880, and died in Temple, Bell County, Texas, on 3 November 1972, aged 90 years.   She was a daughter of Sanford Baugh and Jenny Randall.   A Daisey Baugh is reported to have married J. L. Lewallen in Bell, Texas, on 5 January 1904.   Did the widow Daisy (Joyce) Lewallen marry a Joyce man after her first husband, John Lee Lewallen, died?

There is a Texas death certificate for William Ralph Lewallen who was born about 1910, and died at Temple, Bell County, Texas, on 28 September 1970, aged 60.   His father was J. L. Lewallen and his mother was Daisy Baugh.

I also found a Texas death certificate for John L. Lewallen of Bluff Dale, Texas, who was born in Tennessee on 20 October 1857, and died in Precinct 6, Erath County, Texas, on 19 November 1936, at the age of 79 years, 28 days.   He was a son of Zach Lewallen and Nancy McDonald.   He was buried at the Sap Oak Cemetery on 19 November 1936.   His wife was Louise Lewallen.   Bluff Dale is a town in northeastern Erath County.

There was this household in Precinct 5, Bell County, Texas, in 1880:

LEWALLEN W. M. Head Married Male White 24 TN TN TN Farmer
LEWALLEN Mira Wife Married Female White 24 IL IN IN Keeping House
LEWALLEN Geo. Son Single Male White 2 TX TN IL
LEWALLEN John Brother Single Male White 21 TN TN TN Farmer

I assume this couple was William Lewallen and Almira “Mira” (Palmer) Lewallen.

Close by was this household:

LEWALLEN Z. Head Married Male White 60 TN NC NC Farmer
LEWALLEN Nancy Wife Married Female White 60 TN NC SC Keeping House
LEWALLEN Amos Son Single Male White 21 TN TN TN Works on Farm
LEWALLEN Joel Son Single Male White 19 TN TN TN Works on Farm

I assume this couple was Zachariah "Zach" Lewallen and Nancy (McDonald) Lewallen.

Thanks, Clete.   These were probably the Lewallens from Scott County, Tennessee.   I know my Lewallens lived (many died) in Bell County, Texas, and one of them donated land for the Lewallen Cemetery in Troy.   The ones mentioned above aren't descendants of Wiley (born 1795) as mine are but somehow, I know they're related.
