Dear Lewallens-
I'm so grateful for the invitations I received to join this site, and I've had a great time reading the postings and looking at the photos.   I'm glad you guys tracked me down!   I didn't realize that folks were looking for me, but please know that I am more than happy to share whatever information I may have with you.   I know from my own experience that the tiniest clue, seemingly insignificant, can be the very thing which leads you to solving a major mystery in your line.

While I have not actively researched in 4-5 years now, there is one "mystery" I'm still very interested in: the death and burial of Joseph Lewallen (1763-ca.1855).   It's always seemed odd to me that such an important link in our family--and one who was so prominent in earlier county/state records just disappears at the end of his life--and no one in my particular line seemed to know anything of him.   So, I'm still waiting for that tiny, insignificant clue.

As to the Lewallen Reunion at Nail's Creek in September:   The reunion is always held the third Sunday in September at Nail's Creek.   It's just an old-fashioned get-together:   bring a covered dish and join in.   The reunion originated long ago for the family/descendents of John W. and Mary Connelly Lewallen--but anyone with an interest or connection to the Lewallens is certainly more than welcomed.   It's a very low-key affair, basically "eat and meet"--no formal program--just come and have a good time.

Finally, I'm very happy to know that the "book" and time-line I compiled and updated in 2005 if finding its way through the Lewallen family.   That's exactly what I hoped would happen.   I hope, as well, that any of you who can make a correction or addition to my "book" will do so.

For those of you who are Banks County Lewallens--I have a copy of the Deaths and Cemeteries book and will be very happy to look up information for you if it would be helpful.   My email is lewallend@bellsouth.net

Thanks again for the welcome to the site.

Dennis, all I can say is that we're sure glad you're joining us.

The Joseph Lewallen would probably be the one showing in the 1850 census of District 17, Habersham County, GA, wouldn't he?   It shows him born 1768 North Carolina (age 82).   In the household was Elizabeth 32, P.L.E. 7, K.W. 4, T.A. 2 and J.B. 0.

Dennis:   So glad you have joined.   Much of the information I have was obtained from you and Billie Harris.   You've always been so generous with your information, and I'm very happy to see you connected to this site!
