I have not found a record of John Llewellyn and Catherine Kahley Llewellyn in the 1840 PA Census, but from 1836 to 1850 the oldest 7 of their 10 children were born in Tuscarora, Schuylkill Co., PA. That is where they lived following their marriage in 1835 and until eventually moving to Elk County and then to Beech Creek, Clinton County, PA where they are buried.

Mary, there have been several instances where I haven't been able to find individuals in census records. Why, I don't know, but it could be they were just missed by the census taker or maybe they were traveling, I don't know. Are the census records for Schuylkill County complete?

Billie,
John Llewellyn is listed in all the PA census records from 1850 - 1890. In 1840 he and Catherine Kahley Llewellyn lived in Schuylkill County because their children were born there. I don't believe any of the John Llewellyn's in your list are my ancestor. John's wife had very deep root in PA, the Reber's, Weber's and Kehle's among the original settlers. I suspect they lived on one of her family's farms, but I don't know whose. She had many siblings.

Ancestry shows the following Johns in Pennsylvania:
John Lalion, Covington, Luzerne County with 2 free white persons under 20, one free white 20-49 and a total of 5 free whites.
John Lawlan in Montgomery, Franklin county with 3 free white persons under 20 and a total of 5 free whites.
John Lewellin in Kiskinmintos, Armstrong County with 4 free white persons under 20, one age 20-49 and 6 free whites total

John Lewellan of Philadelphia County with two free whites under 20, two whites 20-49, a total of four.
Could any of those by chance be yours? Luzerne and Schuylkill have borders touching and Montgomery isn't that far away
