Lewallens in Revolutionary War Records
Cindy Lewallen - Aug 2, 2011
The last posting got away before I could add the following:
I show Prazada, aka Parazeda aka Parisida aka Priscilla Vowell as the 3rd wife of Daniel Richard Lewelling, II. Daniel Richard Lewelling, II b 1763 in VA, dod 5/8/1833. Daniel's first wife was Phillipa Bates, 2nd Grace Stockley b 1773, VA, m 3/30/1793. Daniel was approximately 55 when he married Prazada. Dates from Revolutionary war records indicate that Prazada was b abt 1796. Parents Daniel Richard Lewallen/Lewelling/Llewellyn and Mary Burke/Burks? Brother to Anderson Grant Lewelling b 1764 in VA?

Cindy, do you know where that informaton came from? The reason I ask is because nothing I've found gives first and second names for Daniel or Richard in the 1700's. There's a Richard in Norfolk County, wife Grace Stockley, who died there 1801 naming just one son.
Then there was a Richard in Prince Edward County, son of Daniel, and Richard probably was the brother of Anderson. Here's Daniel's Will naming Richard:
DANIEL LEWELLIN - Will dated 25 Feb. 1785, proved 18 July 1785.
Wife, Mary. Appoints his son, Richard as Executor. He leaves to his loving wife Mary Lewellen during her natural life the land and Plantation whereon I now live, together with all my Stocks of Horses, Cattle, Hogs & Sheep with all my Household and Kitchen Furniture and all Plantation utensils of every kind and at her decease I give & Bequeath the said land and Plantation to my son Richard Lewellin to him and his heirs forever my will & desire is that my said wife have full power to Dispose of & give any of the above mentioned things (the land Excepted) to any of her Children or grandChildren that she shall think most needy in her life time and at her death I do give her full power to dispose of them by will to any of my Children or Grand Children she shall Judge most needy and that her gift be accounted good and Valid as tho it had been my own act............
Witnessed by Edmund Dayrill Ford, Zachariah Rice and John Vaughn. Daniel signed with his x. Edmund D. Ford was security on Richard's bond as Executor. Presented in court 18 July 1785.
Notice in the will Daniel refers to her children and grandchildren, then he later calls them his children and grand children. Also notice Edmund Ford is shown in Wake County, N.C. in connection with another of the Lewallens there later. Anderson moved to Wake County.
Daniel's Inventory is also recorded at the November 1785 court. Just the usual furniture, stock and tools of a farmer; he did own some books.
1785 - Also in Prince Edward County but living a distance away was DANIEL LEWELLEN with 4 whites, one other and one building. Whether related to Anderson, Jesse and William, it isn't known but since the Daniel who died 1785 didn't name any of his children except Richard, we can almost assume Daniel is Daniel Sr.'s son. It needs substantiation though.
Then in Tennessee we have information about the Richard who married Parazida Vowell. There's no record he was ever married prior to his marriage to her. When he died 1833, he left minor children (under 21).
1838 -

LUALLEN, NANCY LEWALLEN, DANIEL LEWALLEN, JESSE LUALLEN, LOUISA LEWALLEN, & FREEMAN LEWALLEN, minor heirs of RICHARD LEWALLEN deceased do hereby report to your worship on account of all the Estate of said Minor Heirs of said which has come to my hand or possessions of Guardian (to wit)

I'm not sure who the Charles Lewallen was that was administrator of the estate because no one has posted his lineage yet. He could have been a brother. If he was Richard's son from an earlier marriage, we need to find out who Richard married before Vowell.

The information I have about Parazeda being Daniel/Richard's 3rd wife came from other genealogical sources that I foolishly did not write down when I started researching my family "just for fun". I would rely on your research before accepting my information about Parazeda being Daniel's third wife. As I go forward, I am also trying to go back to substantiate some of the older information. That's why I phrased it "I show", but I should have been more clear. The info about her applying for a widow's pension is from the Genealogical Abstracts of Revolutionary War Pension Files, Vol II: F-M etc.

Hey, you're certainly not the only one who didn't write down sources. I didn't either and, in fact, for years I didn't even make a notation of the different spellings. Just assumed they were all Lewallens and spelled wrong by the person who wrote the information or by the way it sounded. So even now you may see some of the things I've written as Lewallen when the actual spelling is Llewellyn or Luallen
