In Richard Lewallen/Lewelling's application for pension   in Anderson County, Tennessee, 1829, he doesn't seem to know when he was born ( 1763 has been given) .   That's the same year Anderson Lewallen was born and there's a good possibility Anderson and Richard were brothers.   Richard does say he was born in Prince Edward County, VA.

-----   Richard gave oath to William McKamy, an acting Justice of the Court of Pleas
and Quarter Sessions for Anderson County,   "he was born in Prince Edward
County, Virginia, in the year 1763 according to the best information he can
get on the subject,   the month and day he is not certain of.   He has no
record of his age."   signed Richard "x" Lewallen.   This was part of an
amended declaration for pension filed on 29 August 1829.   (Thanks to Sue Cooper)

In 1818 Anderson County, TN., he married Parazeda Vowell.   On May 8, 1833, same county, he died...or did he?   In 1838 Enoch Foster was guardian of his minor children.   Charles Lewallen was the administrator of the estate.   His minor children were:
               A.   ALEXANDER M.
               B.   NANCY
               C.   JESSE
               D.   DANIEL
               E.   LOUISA
               F.   FREEMAN

Jesse is said to have been born 1837 and married Elizabeth Bailey.   Freeman's birth year according to census was 1833.

A couple questions.

1.   Did Richard die 1833, or was it 1835 or 1838?   Most records show 1833 but Jesse wasn't born until 1837.   Here's one thing found on him from the Rev. War Pension File and it's confusing.   He received $43.56 June 26, 1833 and died May 8, 1833...or died 1844.   What year did he die?   And note the info Sue Cooper found above about his pension file 1829.

Richard Lewallen   - Anderson -   A.K.A. LUALLEN. Private, Virginia Line, $20.00 Annual Allowance $43.56 Amount Received June 26 1833 Pension Started Age 71 Died May 8 1833 (1835 Tn Pension Roll) Born 1763 in Prince Edward County, Virginia where he served in the militia, died 1844, Anderson County, TN (Rev War Pension File, Snyder E. Roberts' Revolutionary War Soldiers of Anderson County Tennessee

2.   If those were the minor children when Richard died, then who were these in Paraseda's household in 1850 and 1860?   Who was Sarah in the 1850 census?   Was James W. possibly hers?   But who was Hardy and John W?

1850:   LUALLEN, Paraseda 45 (1805) Tenn; Sarah 21 Tenn; Louisa 20; Freeman 17 (1833), Hardy 12 (1838), John W 11 (1839), James W. 2

1860:   Parazidia Lewallen age 62 (1798), Louisa 27, Sally 30, Hardy 24, John 20

HELP.

Incidentally, Charles was probably Richard's brother.
