Descendants of Wiley
Llewellyn (e.g., Sexton/Carter/Lewallen) and my brother, Dan
Llewellyn, are exact yDNA
matches.   Dan and I are not
directly descended from Wiley
Llewellyn/Lewallen/Lewellen.
Our ancestor John Llewellyn
was b. Wales or England in
1813 (census records differ)
and came to PA in 1834.   He married Catherine Kahley (Kehle),
died in 1890, is buried in
Beech Creek, Clinton Co, PA.
Does anyone know the
relationship between this John
Llewellyn and Wiley
Llewellyn/Lewallen?   They are
obviously closely related!
Thanks.
Mary

Mary, I can only guess that the relationship was in England before coming to the colonies so it would be way back there somewhere.   Wiley was born ca 1795 in North Carolina and it's believed he was either a son of Anderson Lewallen or perhaps one of Anderson's brothers.   Anderson was born about 1764 and he was probably a son of Daniel, all of whom were here in the early states/colonies. Neither Anderson nor his siblings or parents are ever found in Pennsylvania and that's why I say the connection was probably somewhere in England and about 1650 or even before.   As you know, a father passes a certain Y chromosome to his sons and those sons to their sons, on down the line so the connection could have been generations ago.   And, to my knowledge, no one researching has ever worked on the families abroad about that time, but if they have, I'd hope they'd post their findings because I certainly haven't.   I'm having enough trouble just trying to find who Wiley's parents are with any certainty.

But I do have a couple questions and the answers just might help those of us who descend from Wiley, Anderson, etc.

1.   Do you have the names of all the descendants for your line and where they lived?   If so, could you post it.   It might help others researching those particular areas.

2.   Is it possible your John came over here because he had other relatives here already?   Take a look at what we have for Clinton County and for Schulykill County, Pennsylvania, especially the latter county.   It appears there may have been another John Llewellyn there before yours arrived.   If we can connect another family with yours, then we may be able to get more answers.

Hi, Billie.
Answer to Q. 1:   No, I do not have the names of al the descendants, but I have the names of many of them.   John Llewellyn and Catherine Kahley had many children and most of his children had many children.   For the total descendants, the number would be staggering.   I will post what I have when time permits.Answer to Q. 2:   Yes, it is likely he came where other relatives lives, but we have no record of them and do not know their names.   Catherine's family was well-established in Schuylkill and Montgomery Counties.   The oldest 6 children were born in or near Tuscarora, Schuylkill County, PA.

Additional info:   I have traced each of the children's family trees trying to find someone who has information predating the immigrant John Llewellyn who married Catherine Kahley.   Although one person posted some undocumented names in Wales (dates were questionable), no reliable information has yet been found.
