I just came across this article posted to another site by Sue Posey, she found it in the newspaper, so it should be OK to post it here as well. It has a lot of info connecting the families in Scott County, TN, including Lewallen's as well. Thought you would enjoy reading it.

Emily Reed, Feb, 9, 1834-March17, 1907 was the daughter of Isaac Reed, 1790-1854 and Phariba Hatfield Reed, 1795-1840. Her father Isaac Reed was the first trustee of Scott Co. Tenn. in 1850, and the father of fifteen children, namely,

Phariba, 1810-1881, Sarah, 1812, Allen, Delilah, 1815-May 24, 1865, Elizabeth, Campbell C., Apr. 30, 1820-July 11, 1866, Andrew, June 10-1823-Sept. 5, 1904, Rebecca, Sampson, Oct 1, 1827-Feb. 27, 1890, Isaac, 1830, John, Oct. 9, 1832-Aug. 18, 1879, Emily, Feb. 9, 1834-Mar. 17, 1896, and Eliza Jane 1836.

After Phariba’s death, Isaac Reed married Phariba McDonald, b 1805, and had two children, Harrison, 1844, and Julian 1847. Isaac’s second wife, Phariba, preceded him in death, for his two younger children were left in the care of Allen McDonald at his death in 1854.

Phariba Reed, married in 1825 James Cecil, Sept. 14, 1806-Sept. 14, 1871. Children: William, 1828-1803, Sarah, 1827, Granville, 1830, Riley, 1832, Isaac, 1834, Charity, 1836, Catharine, 1838, Rebecca, 1840, Martin, 1841, Wilson, 1843, Elizabeth 1845, Malinda, 1846, Phariba, 1848, Samuel, 1824-1851, and Nelson.

William Cecil married Nancy Williams West, they were the parents of Rev. George W. Cecil who preached at New Liberty United Baptist Church at No Business in April, 1899. Samuel Cecil, married Priscilla Thomas, their son, Beatty Cecil 1849-1931 was sheriff of Scott County Tenn. in 1882-88.

Sarah Reed, married Stephen Thomas, b. 1807. Children: Kezia, 1832, John, 1834, Mary, 1836, Joseph, 1838, Isaac, 1844, and William 1846.

Isaac Reed, married Sarah, b. 1830, children: Allen, 1849, Andrew Reed, married Polly Ann Carson, children: Allen, 1847, and Mrs. Josiah (Rebecca) Phillips.

Rebecca Reed, married in 1845 Samuel McDonald b. 1821.
Eliza Jane Reed, married Nov. 22, 1860 Ezekiel Newport, b. 1839, son of James and E. McDonald Newport, their children were: J.J., John, Marion, William T., Fieldon, Carson, Harrison, Jack, Rowena Duckett, Julia Ann Wason and Elizabeth.

Elizabeth Newport, married Michael Duncan, children: Mrs. Columbus (Louvannia) Lowe, Liza Sexton, Martha Begley, Mary Sexton, Elaine Newport and Lindsey.

William T. Newport, married Lucreta Hatfield, 1892-1972, daughter of John and Kizzie Boshears Hatfield, children, Reed Chambers, Bethel and William T. Newport, Jr.

John Newport, married Rachel Hughett, children: Kirk, 1885-1975 married Nora Goad in 1908, at Robbins, Tenn. She died in 1931 and he married Mayme Byerly in 1933 at Iola, Kansas. Kirk Newport’s children were: Paul, Frank, and Kathryn Baldwin. Kirk died Aug. 18, 1975 in Rapid City, South Dakota.

John Reed married Pernell Bowling on March 18, 1862.

Harrison Reed married Mary Ann Phillips Sexton.

Campbell C. Reed married Martha Ann Chitwood, Jan. 13, 1820-June 14, 1901. Daughter of William and Sarah Reed Chitwood, their children were: Rachel, 1841-1899, Rebecca, 1843-1903, Sarah, 1845-1918. Martha Ann, 1848-1931, Joel C. 1850-1933, Sampson, 1853-1941, Deliilah, 1855-1925, and Jupiter, 1849.

Rachel married Dave Murphy, Rebecca married Jim Chitwood, and Delilah married Finely Thomas.

Sampson married Nettie Phillips, children: Mrs. Silas (Etta) Stanley, 1879-180, Dillie Harris, Lola Terry, Odell, Joel, and Campbell.

Sarah married Joseph F. Smith, 1842-1917, son or Richard and Rachel Terry Smith. Children: W. C., Ezra, John, Cornell, J.C., Zora Sackrider, and Mrs. Kwood (Cordelia) Pemberton.

Martha Ann married Jonathan Phillips, children: Rev. Harlan, and Harrison.

Joel C. married in 1871 Emily Smith, 1850-1923, daughter of Richard and Rachel Terry Smith. Children: Irel J. 1871-1950, Isaac S. 1873-1956, Arnold, 1874, C.C. 1876-1968, Haviland S. 1878, Richard S. 1880-1908, John Colby, 1882, Cora L. 1885, Arlee Coleman, 1887, Ada Bell, 1890 and Daily, 1892.

Delilah Reed married in 1833 John Lewallen, Feb. 12, 1812-Nov 16, 1896, son of Anderson and Lucy Rice Lewallen. John was the first sheriff of Scott Co. Tenn. in 1850, their children were: Isaac 1834-1908, Anderson, 1836-1912, Mrs. Elhue (Elizabeth) McDonald, 1837, Campbell, 1839-1918, Andrew, 1841-1915, Mrs. Haden (Nancy) Burke, 1845-1879, Columbus, 1847-1934, Mrs. Peter (Louisa) Burke, 1849 and Harry, 1853, and Mrs. Calvin (Lucinda) Bell, 1850-1928.

Emily Reed, married Sterling McDonald, b 1824 and had six children, among them Hulda and Sarah.

John and Delilah Reed Lewallen moved from Scott Co. Tenn. to Wayne Co. Ky. about 1860. Delilah died in 1865, and Emily’s husband passed away also. Emily then married John Lewalllen on Dec. 9 1865 in Scott Co. Tenn. and had tow [two] children, Tennessee, born in Ky., June 4, 1868 died in Bells, Texas May 19, 1946, and Texas, born in Ky. April 17, 1870, died in Texas Oct. 6, 1946.

John and Emily Reed Lewallen moved from Monticello, Kentucky to Temple, Texas on a wagon train in 1873, and remained there until they died. Texas Lewallen married in 1889 Bascome Hurt, 1865-1944, and Tennessee Lewallen married in 1902 James Ewing, 1876-1971.

Sarah McDonald, married Francis M. Blevins, 1846-1926, son of Jonathan and Lucinda Roberts Blevins. Children: Timothy, 1877-1917, Arizona Bibbs, 1877-1917, George M., 1880, Mollie Henson, 1882-1953, Florence Edwards, 1884-1957, Frona Henson, 1885-1955, James R. 1888-1959, William J. 1890, Josephine Shaffer, 1892, and James Blaine, 1895-1950.

Isaac Reed was the son of John Reed, 1760-1938 and Nancy Morris Reed, 1764-1856. They lived in Anderson Co. Tenn. near New River and the Cumberland on a fifty acre tract which John willed to his two sons Allen and Isaac on March 23, 1838, probated Jan. 7, 1839 by Allen McDonald, John Phillips, and James Cecil.
