There's so much more than what I found and put in the book years ago, especially on the internet these days. If you have anything at all, whether in the book already or not, or if you want to discuss anything related to our genealogies, please post it. We need all the interest and postings we can get in order to connect some of these lines. We can also use more DNA tests to firm up the connections because so far we've only had a couple who've tested. Unfortunately, my time right now is so limited and leaves little time to research on the internet so anything at all you can post will be appreciated.
Billie Harris - Jul 10, 2008
Does anyone have anything they can contribute? I've got a heavy schedule and not a lot of time to research right now but we still need to piece some of these families together.
Also, don't forget the DNA tests. So far we have three different lines so obviously all these families don't connect. If you know of anyone with the surname of Llewellyn, Lewelleyn, Lewallen, Lewellen, Lewelling, etc. who would do a test, then let me know and I'll gladly order a kit. There's more on DNA testing in this News section and also in the History section. Just type DNA in the search blank above and click "go" to the right to bring up the postings.

We sure would like those that haven't posted your family line, brick walls you may have and/or anything you'd like to share about your family line. I've gotten extremely excited about how these families connect or are divided. It seems the more I post and others reply, the more interesting this website gets.

There's a book ?
Billie Harris - Jul 10, 2008
Go to the top of this page where you see "Front Page," "Addresses," "Calendar,", etc. and you'll see "History" at the end. Click on History. When the next page comes up at the top in the "Search History" blank, type in Book. It will come up in three sections. The original had some 200 pages but if they were all put in one posting, it would take a long time to pull up so they've been put in three different sections. The book was compiled in the 1960's and 70's and a lot has been put on the internet since then. [NOTE: the instructions are not valid for this site]

Wow ! Thank you so much !

I'm bringing this post back to the front page because we really do need postings. If you can contribute anything at all, please do. Perhaps you have census data you could share. I know I'm asking others to do look-ups on Ancestry because I don't have it so if any of you can post the Llewellyn, Lewallen, Lewellen, etc. information from census records you have or if you have cemetery records or if you have anything at all on these families, it might help others of us and we could sure use the postings.

I'm a newbie to the site and appreciate Billie's invitation to join. I have nothing to contribute. I found Martha Llewellyn wife of Joseph Wofford.(b.1752 d.1820?-per weathered gravestone in Woodruff S.C.) while working on the Woffords some thirty years ago. Life interfered and I never climbed the Llewellyn family tree. I'm here to learn, but will share anything I might find that could be helpful.

Kay, from what you just wrote may have been a significant bit of information.
Those of you on the Banks County, GA. may already know the answer to this. There's discussion in the News section of whether the Banks County, GA. John W.'s middle name was Wesley or Wofford.
Kay, when you get a chance, could you tell us what you found on the Woffords. That might help tell if the Joseph Lewallen (ca 1763-1855) was perhaps a brother of the Martha who married Joseph Wofford.

I may not be answering the question:
I went from my Mamma( b.1906) back to Martha & Joseph Wofford (of Rev. ) for her a DAR supplemental. It has been too long ago for me to do it from memory. I've located one of the books beside the DAR patriot index that we used for early time period "proofs". In Sept. I'll try to get to library to see if I can find some helpful info.
I do remember that children of Martha & Joseph, were suppose to have been 3 Wofford boys & 3 girls. One boy was Joseph Llewellyn; one Benjamin Wofford of Wofford College ;Jeremiah who left S.C. for Ga.; & a girl Mrs Nancy W. Turner for whom my ancetress seems to have been named and is buried near her parents. ( I got to go to cemetery in Dec of '97) but none of that helps with Llewellyns. Joseph Wofford I think was supposed to have been born in Md. & Martha in Pa.

Kay -
You have a great memory. Both Joseph & Martha Wofford are buried in the Tabernacle Methodist Cemetery in Spartansburg Co, SC. A quick check shows that this particular Martha Llewellyn was the daughter of a Hugh Llewellyn and was born in PA. So this is probably not the source of the Wofford middle name in the Banks Co Lewallens. Unless, of course, it is thru a descendant of Jeremiah Wofford mentioned above. That seems like something worth investigating.

I've searched a great deal for a Hugh Lewellyn previously but found next to nothing. Here's what I found:
"The Abbridged Compendium of American Genealogy, edited by Frederick A. Virkus:
Vol. 7 shows Martha Llewellyn who died 1850, daughter of Jefferson Llewellyn and granddaughter of Hugh Llewellyn of Wales. Married Benjamin Wofford (1775-1858). One of their descendants, John William Gladney, was born Magnolia, Ar 4/5/1918. Benjamin Wofford’s grandfather, Absalom Wofford (ca 1690-1750) from Cumberlandshire, England, and settled in Prince Georges County, Maryland."
There is a reference on Ancestry giving Hugh as the father of both Martha and Mary Llewellyn. Both Martha and Mary married Woffords. Martha (b ca 1752 Lancaster, PA married 1768 Joseph Wofford in Spartanburg County, S.C. Mary born 1749 Lancaster PA married Benjamin Wofford. She died 1816 in Huntsville, Madison County, Alabama.
Another Ancestry reference shows Hugh Llewellyn as having married Margaret Jones but no dates or places. Since Virkus shows Hugh as being "of Wales," my question is did he ever come to the colonies?
The only Jefferson Lewelling I can find is the one born 1839 who descends from William Lewelling of Randolph County, N.C., and he may have been named for Thomas Jefferson, who knows. While he did an absolutely fantastic job, I will add that there are some errors in Virkus' genealogies.
If anyone has anything on Hugh Llewellyn/Lewellyn, etc. would they please post it. It might help us find more about his descendants.

I have started a blog, http://foundfamilybranches.blogspot.com/ , where I post the documentation I have in my possession. It is closer to me on the pedigree than most of you might need and includes other lines besides Lewallens, but if it helps, you are welcome.
Billie Harris - Aug 28, 2008
TerriLyn, you have a very, very good site going with lots of good, useful, information. It was interesting to me to note the adoptions.
I presume these Lewallen individuals descend from Anderson Lewallen, right? So that it doesn't get lost in this posting and we'll be able to refer to it when needed, would you give it a separate listing in the History section.
Billie Harris - Sep 23, 2008
I'm bringing this post back again. I've run out of things to post, obviously, since I'm now resorting to scouring other genealogy sites for information.
Please, if anyone has something to post, we'd all appreciate it. It's the postings that make the site worth coming back to visit. Census records, cemetery info, your own family tree, anything at all.
Remember, this isn't my site. It belongs to ALL members.
Billie Harris - Feb 19, 2009
I'll bring this back once again. If anyone can post any information, please do. It takes postings to keep the interest going and to help in finding our ancestors and making connections.
This isn't my site, as someone mentioned to me the other day. It belongs to ALL members and it takes all of us to find answers to not just our own individual family, but to help others find answers to theirs, too. So please, please, share what you have, and if you have any suggestions in helping others find answers to their questions, post them.
