LEWALLEN, COOLEDGE Bob- 81, of Augusta, Ga., passed away February 10, 2004. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Irene Robbins Lewallen; grandparents, John and Lydia Landry Lewallen and William and Betty Ann Hughett Robbins; three brothers: Hillard Butler, Eugene and Junior; three sisters: Marie Moore, Betty Glander, and June Lewallen. Born and raised in Scott County, he served in the United States Army, 4th Infantry Division 44th Field Artillery Battalion during World War II. He received two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, the Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He as a lifetime member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, as a D-Day participant during the Normandy Invasion landing on Utah Beach and was previously stationed at Ft. Gordon. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Lewallen; daughter, Elizabeth A. “Betsy” Lewallen; sons: Junior Lewallen and wife, Judy; Frank Lewallen, Gene Lewallen and wife, Janet; special granddaughters, Shawn Chin and husband, Peter, and Shannon Gibson and husband, Chris; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one sister, Mildred Sexton of Scott County; and many other relatives. Interment was conducted February 14, in Scott County, with Rev. Tom Compton officiating. Thomas Poteet & Son of Augusta, Ga., was in charge of arrangements. AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Tuesday, February 10, 2004 , Mr. Cooledge " Bob" Lewallen, 81, of Augusta. Mr. Lewallen served in the US Army, 4th Infantry Division 44th Field Artillery Battalion during WWII. He received two purple hearts, a bronze star, the Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was also a lifetime member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, was a D-Day participant landing on Utah Beach and was previously stationed at Ft. Gordon. Family members are his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Lewallen, daughter, Elizabeth A. "Betsy" Lewallen, sons, Junior Lewallen and wife Judy, Frank Lewallen, Gene Lewallen and wife Janet, two special granddaughters, Shawn Lewallen Chin and husband, Peter, Shannon Lewallen Gibson and husband Chris, grandchildren, Wayne Lewallen, Clayton Lewallen, Ryan Lewallen, Brian Lewallen and wife Katie, and Katie Lewallen, great-granddaughters, Alexes Gibson and Lauren Lewallen , all of Augusta. Sister, Mildred Strunk of Scott County, Tenn. The family will receive friends today, (Thursday) from 6 until 8 p.m. at Thomas Poteet & Son. Mr. Lewallen will be transported to Scott County, Tenn. for interment services on Saturday, February 14, 2004 at 11a.m. Rev. Tom Compton officiating.
