Description:

Elizabeth Lewallen

This photo has been called Delilah Reed Lewallen and also Elizabeth Lewallen.

At this point I am not sure which she is.

Some say it is John's first wife and others say it is his daughter Elizabeth.

Elizabeth Ann Lewallen married Elihu McDonald.

I just posted photos to the site of her & her husband and famly.

**************
As for the other daughter with the middle name Elizabeth.

Lucinda Elizabeth Lewallen married Calvin Bell. Her family is also posted to the site.

So does any one know the correct answer, wish I did.

I also posted a black and white picture like this.   On the Human site it say it is Elizabeth Lewallen and that the picture belong to Kathleen Fulwiller.

Yes, I know it. I also have seen where people say that they had the same photo with Delilah written on it, so I really don't know, I am conused about it too.

Venita Gaston - Apr 6, 2009

I have also been told this is Elizabeth Lewallen.   I would love to find a picture of Delilah and   I was hoping Kathleen Fulwiller might have one.   Surely, someone, somewhere has one.

Dorothy Campbell - Apr 6, 2009

Venita,

Thanks, I was hoping you might know, since your grandmother Tennessee was the daughter of Delilah. I am going to change the name on the photo to Elizabeth. If anyone finds out anything different please let us know.

I will leave the rest of my post to help us in finding more out about this photo.

Look forward to seeing your photos of Tennessee's line when you are able to post them.

Grandmother Ewing was Tennessee Lewellen, daughter John Lewellen and Emely Reed Lewellen but Delilah was the grandmother of so many of my Blevins/McDonald cousins, I just wanted to find a picture of her also.   I've never known why the Texas Lewallen's changed the spelling to Lewellen, either.
I will get some pictures posted when tax time is past.

Dorothy Campbell - Apr 9, 2009

Thanks for the correction. I really did know that, just some how had a senior moment. If you ever find the real Delilah, please post for us. I have had a few request for her.

I am sure some one out there has a photo of her some place in an attic or old trunk, or some place. We all need to ask our cousins and other family members to check with everyone they know for our ancestor photos.

Many will be lost by being in the hands of relatives not interested in genealogy. So maybe if we just ask around we can get some rounded up. Doesn't hurt to ask.

I think if anyone has a picture of Delilah, it would have been Kathleen Fulwiler.   When I would take Mom (Margery Morgan) up to see her, she had tons of old pictures and papers of old family history.   I would sit and look for hours at all the things she had on the Lewallen's but she wouldn't let you see everything because she wanted to keep us coming back, that she was lonely.   I hate to say this, but I think a lot of her family history things will be lost due to circumstances right now.   I don't think her son is interested in any of it, and may not know what all she has.   I would love to see it all at least go to the Scott County Historical Society, and also the old Anderson and Lucy Lewallen stone that is at her house.   My wife and I will be going to the burial tomorrow.

Billie Harris - Jan 7, 2012

Gillis, that old stone has concerned me.   I didn't know if her son would treasure it as much as Kathleen did or not.   Is there any tactful way to ask him what he intends to do with it?   I still would like a rubbing of it one of these days.

Please let her son and family know that the Lewllen researchers will miss her and appreciate all that she's done for us over the years.   Also express our sincere sympathies.

Gill, I am glad that you had planned on attending Kathleen's funeral. Hope you made it there. And thank you for bringing me to meet her. "DJ"

This sure reminds me of a photo of my grandma Bennie. It amazes me how we can still resemble our ancestors. Once I went to the Huntsville historical society and went through photos and declared who I was related to by likeness and not name. Then I went back through and looked at who the person was and did correctly identify my family by looks alone. Isn't that fun!

Another suggestion is to find the person with the oldest photo - who originally had it and passed it on. I know that the copy that I have has Delilah written on it and in the same handwriting as Emely's photo.

Dorothy Campbell - Jan 6, 2012

I believe the oldest person that had the photo may have been Kathleen Lewallen and she just passed away yesterday. We may never know for sure about this photo, heard the 2 different names. The age of the clothing she is wearing according to her age might help us figure it out, if anyone is good at that. I am not.

Diane Greer - Mar 3, 2012

Mary Ann I saw what you mean. Whoever wrote that the other photo was Emely also wrote that this photo was Delilah. I just know this photo looks like grandma Bennie...and of course we descend from Delilah. What's sad is this question started way back in April 2009. Since then Kathleen Fulwiler is gone. We lost a resource without an answer.

Who knows, as we meet new cousins along the line, maybe some one will have the same photo with more inforomation.

Melba Boyd - Apr 21, 2012

I am Melba Boyd, the g.granddaughter of John Lewellen & Emely Reed Lewellen.
My grandmother was Texas Lewellen, daughter of John Lewellen & Emely Reed Lewellen.I am pretty sure the hand writing on the two pictures is mine. I had written Emely on the picture of my g. grandmother and posted it to an earlier Lewellen web site. I also had this other picture that I didn't know the idenity of, but was told by a very distant cousin that visited me some years ago that this was Delilah, so I wrote that name on the picture and posted both of them to the Lewellen web site, believing this to be correct.   I believe now that I was told wrong and the picture is Elizabeth Lewellan the daughter of John Lewellen. I am so sorry for the confusion on the idenity of the picture. Both of my pictures are very old and belonged to my grandmother,Texas Lewellen Hurt.
