This photograph was in an album of my mother, Gertie Lewallen, daughter of Balaam Eugene Lewallen.   Grandpa Eugene was a son of Robert Lewallen and Martha Ann Morris Lewallen, and grandson of Andrew Russell Lewallen and Perlicia Ann Phobe Davis of Morgan County, Tennessee.  

On the back is written, "Aunt Anna, Carl E. Smith."

Smith, Carl E. Was born in Scott County, Tennessee on January 27, 1892, departed this life Feb. 4, 1960 at the age of 68 years, and 7 days.   Survivors: his wife, 1 son, 2 daughters, 4 sisters, 7 brothers, 5 grandchildren.   He professed faith in Christ and joined the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Oneida, Tennessee on August 16, 1936, where he remained a member until death.   "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.   Bethlehem Baptist Church.   (Source:   West Union Association of United Baptists Minutes, 1960, p11.)

Obituary in Fentress Courier 31 Dec 2003, page 14 said veteran of Korean War. Pallbearers included Brandon Smith, Brian Smith, Jerry Jones, Larry Plyman, Mark Elkins, Randy Wright, Chris Byrd and Andy Winningham.

I found this Carl Smith on Rootsweb, which seems to fit the age from looks of photo. Fred Hyder's daughter Jean married into the Crabtree line, so this one could somehow fit, but I can't place him. Most of Anna's children were also born in Fentress Co, so another connection with this Carl Smith on location.
