Description:

Lucien Lewallen

Need help with this one.

I thought at first it might be a very old stone for Andrew Leutian Lewallen. Some refer to him as Andrew Leucian Lewallen, but the dates are very hard to read and from what I can read the dates are not the same.

We already have headstones for him and Malinda both.

Dorothy, the way I read the marker it was that he was born April 1820 (couldn't read the day of the month) and died Oct. 20, 1906.   Do you know where this marker is, what county/state?

I can't seem to find anything for him but in the 1860 census for Campbell County, TN there was a Lucion Lewallen born ca 1833.   Also in Campbell County 1860 was Rachel born 1836 and John born 1839.   Obviously this wouldn't be the same person as in the marker though.

Could Andrew have had a son by the name of Lucien?

It was taken on March 29, 2009, just this past Sunday by Margery's son and daughter in law. I am not sure which of the cemeteries that it was taken from, either in Scott or Morgan Co, TN.

They were at Keeton, Mossip, Potter, Trammell & Strunk cemeteries, I believe this trip. Margery said weather was terrible.

All these stones that I have posted   to site are in TN, (with the exception of Find A Grave stones), either in Scott or Morgan county area.   So all would be connected pretty closely. Most cemeteries are family cemeteries. Some ancestor would donate land and that is how they were all started.

this stone picture was taken in Keeton Cemetery
same cemetery that Alvin and Arminda are in

for got to say that Keeton Cemetery is in Scott County

Since Andrew and Malinda were married 1814, could this Lucian who was born 1820 have been a son?

Are the descendants of Andrew and Malinda on here somewhere and I'm missing it?   I found this posting but it doesn't show him.

That was my thought, but again just a thought and no proof, that I know of.

Lucian and Lewtian (pronounced Lucian?) certainly isn't a common given name in the Lewallens so if Andrew's middle name was Lewtian, then chances are Lucian would be his son.

I've also seen it spelled Leutain.   What is the correct spelling?   LOL, if there is a correct way.   Maybe I should say how is it spelled most often?

Dorothy Campbell - Apr 4, 2009

I only know of two people with the name, spelled either way. I spell one each way.

Ancestry.com shows

Lucien Lewallen
Birth 10 Apr 1820 in Scott, Tennessee, United States
Death 20 Oct 1906 in Huntsville, Scott, Tennessee, United States

s/o Anderson Grant Lewallen & Lydia Rice

HOWEVER, no sources are listed.....

Thanks, John.   That answers the question on the date.

Not so sure about him being a son of Anderson and Lydia though.   First, Scott wasn't formed until 1849 so it would have been Morgan County.   Second, Anderson and Lucy Rice were married 1784 so she would have been up in years when she gave birth to him.   Seems more logical that he would have been a grandson, and probably the son of Andrew who received land from Anderson 1821 in Morgan..
