Description: John Edward Lewallen, (1893 grandson of Zacheriah and Nancy Lewallen) with the wagon that he, his wife and 4 children moved from Ft. Smith Arkansas back to Texas the youngest child my mother was 18 months old. In Ft. Smith, Ark. John and Ella Lewallen worked at the smelter and he belonged to the Faternal Oder of Eagles.

Love the photos with the wagons in them. Times had to be rough on the ones with small children on these trips.

I spoke to my mother yesterday and she said that it took 30 days to travel from Arkansas to Texas in the covered wagon and at some point along the way an indian tried to take one of the horses, but my grandfather was able to stop him.
