how is he connected to our Lewallens

Billie Harris - Jul 6, 2009

There was a William R born 1880 showing in the 1900 census, son of James and Winnie.   I can't find a Rufe so the R. in William's name may have stood for Rufe.

Melba Boyd - Jul 7, 2009

James Lewellen, son of Zachariah Lewellen & Nancy Robbins, m.
Winnie F., they had 5 children:
1. Nannie Lewellen, m. Bates Sheppard

Were the Yorks connected to the famous Sgt. AlvinYork who wouldn't fight because of his religious convictions?   He was from Tennessee.

Jean Brand - Jul 12, 2009

No he wasn't

Melba Boyd - Jul 13, 2009

Jean, thank you for posting Winnie's full name , I didn't have that in my notes.
Also welcome to the Lewellen web site, I know you have a lot of info to post.
I do remember the day we walked the cemetery, I believe in 1999 and it was very hot that day.

I have not only found some more Shep history, it
Is also Lewellen history. We will call this a Lewellen
Mystery. Let's see if any of the Lewellen cousins can
 Solve it.
In the late 18 hundreds and early 19 hundreds there
Lived a Lewallen in shep that was a practical joker,or could have been a little
on the slow side. He would go into peoples houses and find their dirty cloths, and
sometimes clean cloths, take then outside and hang them on a fence, or a clothesline
or put them in the road and put a rock on them. He liked to scare the young kids. He
never married and is burried in the
Bluff creek cemetary. What is his name? Born 18??

Died 19??   He had a snuff dipping sister.(of course a lot of people might have had
 snuff dipping
sisters). Let us see who knows the answer to this mystery.
BILLIE HARRIS YOU HAVE SOLVED THE LEWELLEN MYSTERY.
CONGRATULATIONS. IT IS RUFE LEWELLEN.
